Top 5 Summer Beauty Goals

Makeup Box

I shop for makeup like I’m at the supermarket.  Each month I do a monthly cosmetics haul.  First, I go to Ulta and check to see which products I haven’t tried and might want to try.  Next, I check to see if there are any new products that have come out yet.  I do the same thing at Sephora, by the way.  Some months I alternate because they each may have different campaigns running.  Finally, I go through all of my stuff and decide which products are best for me during the particular season. If it sounds borderline compulsive, it is! Then next month repeat!

This month I was looking through all of my Summer products and realized that I had the same color theme working in my stash.  I tend to gravitate towards hot pinks, berry, purple, and reds.  I love color. The problem is that I like loud color and I should be changing a little based on the seasons.  For Summer, in particular, I should be wearing more nudes, soft pinks, and pastels.  After all, what could it hurt?

After looking through all of my lipsticks, I decided that I needed to add some seasonal makeup goals to my routine.  After researching the trends, I decided to invest in a few Spring-ish looks on my next Ulta run.  Here’s what I plan to try more of this Summer:

  • Play with colorful eyes.
  • Add a little glitter.
  • Glow with a lot of highlighter.
  • Nude pinks on the lips.
  • Blush with rosy cheeks.

Happy Fourth of July!

Before you go out today to enjoy great barbecue, family and Summer heat, let’s take a minute to remember the relevance of this holiday. Independence Day is the day that the United States of America adopted the Declaration of Independence. On July 4, 1776, The Continental Congress declared that 13 colonies of The United States were no longer under British Rule.

The observance of this holiday commemorates the bravery of generations of the past who fought for our freedom from an unjust system of government. Even though we separated ourselves from control of a government that sought to undermine our existence and sabotage any attempts of American greatness, we still deal with similar injustices and similar attempts in our country today.

My personal feelings about this holiday and this great country is bittersweet. The United States of America has grown since 1776 from 13 colonies to 50 states, a federal district, and five territories. Even though we are free, we still live in a country dealing with many injustices and grievances like our ancestors with much little recourse from our government.

There is one thing that we as Americans must understand: Change does not happen by happenstance. Political and economic change happens by organization from factions and groups. If we really want change to take place in our country, we must get involved in our communities, cities, and states and effectuate change from the bottom to the top. Like our forefathers, we must stand together against the forces that attempt to disrupt our lives. We can only do this together.

We must understand that there is good and bad everywhere. However, a country is only as good as the people who comprise its makeup. If we want to truly live free amongst our people, we must first learn to live peaceably with our people no matter the color, religion, creed, or political views. While you’re enjoying your family and friends today, think about those countries that do not enjoy the same freedoms and remember to thank God for our freedom and pray for our country and countries around the world. God bless America!

Meghan Markle’s Bridal Makeup

IMG_2963

If you like fairy tales, unconventional love stories, and timeless beauty, then you were probably amongst the other 29 million viewers tuning in to watch #TheRoyalWedding of Prince Henry Charles Albert David to Rachel Meghan Markle on Saturday, May 19. To those that think rising as early as 4 a.m. American time just to gawk at the likes of British royalty is absurd, let me assure you that The British did not disappoint. As a matter of fact, the event turned out to be quite enlightening and entertaining.

I could literally write about all of the things that I found fascinating about the wedding from the classy British toppers to the dapper British digs. However, there’s only one major detail that needs to be discussed for the purpose of this blog that cannot be ignored or downplayed. That detail is the absolute flawlessness of the bride’s simple bridal makeup. If anyone missed the memo about less being more, then please refer to The Duchess of Sussex; she got it right.

Now it doesn’t hurt to point out that she is naturally, strikingly beautiful. Likewise, her natural wedding day glow didn’t make it any less so. In my amateur opinion, her makeup was not just perfect for a royal wedding, but any wedding. Personally, I think her bridal makeup would be a good reference for any bride trying to achieve a more natural beauty look.

How does one achieve this look so effortlessly displayed by Royals? By focusing on these key focal points, these tips can help you create a more natural bridal look like Meghan’s.

1) Instead of choosing a heavy foundation, you might choose a tinted moisturizer or foundation stick which isn’t as heavy on the skin. The goal is to have your makeup look weightless, not packed on or caked.
2) The cheeks should be two shades darker than the natural skin tone and not rosy or pink. The key is to create a cheeky effect without looking cheesy. Dark, but soft and subtle colors on the cheeks achieve this look.
3) Meghan has beautiful amber-colored eyes so her eyeliner was lightly tinted with brown eyeliner or you can achieve this look with gray, but not black. Brown or gray give a more natural look without making the eyes look too dark or defined. Again, softness is the goal here. Brown actually works well with darker skin, also.
4) The eyebrows are lightly penciled with light brown, not black or dark brown due to the fairness of her skin. A darker color would create a less natural effect. By making the eyebrows brown but not too dark, the color actually shapes her eyes giving her a more dramatic look.
5) Finally, a soft pale pink on the lips creates the perfect hint of color without too much.

Boom! There you have it! This is how a princess was created!

By following all five of these steps, you can achieve the Meghan Markle bridal look and look as naturally beautiful as she did on her wedding day! What are your bridal tips to help achieve that beautiful, natural glow?

Strutting Into Spring Like …

Now that the new season, Sprinter, Spring and Winter, is trying to gradually fade away, we can finally look forward to enjoying Spring.  I can’t lie, though, I thought Winter was never going to leave.  Still, once the groundhog sees his shadow, that should only mean six more weeks of Winter, not ten! All I know is that Mother Nature has a strange sense of humor! I didn’t think the resurgence of Winter was funny one bit!

Nevertheless, Spring is definitely trying to push through.  It’s time for us to get excited about all the pretty things that Springtime brings.  During this season, the flowers are the prettiest and the grass starts to turn evergreen.  Blondes are in and brunettes are out!

Likewise, Spring is the best season by far because it symbolizes so much.  It is during this time of growth and change that we tend to experience the most development.  We plant flowers in Spring so that they can bloom by Summer.   The temperature changes and darkness turns to light.  Women tend to change their hairstyles, wardrobes and attitudes over the course of the season.  Therefore, this is the perfect time to evaluate the things that you might want to explore that can aid expansion and personal development.

Each year I try to encourage myself to do things that I’ve never done before, but I tend to create the list around my travel plans.  However, this time I’ve decided to change my list and tailor it specifically for this season.  The beauty of Spring offers so many wonderful and adventurous opportunities to be fearless.  After watching Beyonce’ perform at Coachella, I believe I need to just step it up! Boy has she inspired me!

In honor of fearless women around the globe, I have created my Spring Bucket List of things that are outside of my norm.  Here are just a few things that I will be attempting this Spring:

  1. Attend a Houston Astros game. (I live in Texas and have never been into baseball so why not go see the World Champions?)
  2. Go horseback riding. Again, horses are all over Texas yet I haven’t ridden a horse since I was a kid. Why not?
  3. Take a road trip at least 5-6 hours away for the weekend.  I already have a destination in mind so stay tuned.

These are my top three things on my Spring Bucket List.  I have given myself until June to get it done.  By then it will be time for my Summer Bucket List.  What are you doing to step outside the box and live outside of your comfort zones? Share some of your ideas and plans in the comments below.

BeyChella 2018: Sorry Not Sorry!

img_2470

Whether you attended Coachella in the flesh or watched Beyonce’s awe-inspiring performance on Youtube, there’s no denying the fact that Bey wasn’t playing games with her performance at the festival.  Not only did the performer make history by becoming the first black woman to headline at Coachella, she also killed by incorporating her feminist and political themes throughout her performances.  Meanwhile, she slayed the stage with her beauty and stylish digs to match.

When you are affectionately called “Queen Bey” and you walk out on stage in Cleopatra costume and you can makes one feel your energy through your presence, then you have successfully proven your grandeur as an artist.  One thing is for certain, two things are for sure, if you don’t walk away from a Beyonce’ show feeling like you should go harder, then you need to check your pulse.  You are obviously not on this planet!

The performance lasted for two hours and it was the most dynamic display of  advancement for the culture by far.  Beyonce’s attention to detail and precise execution of choreography was epic.  She told a story that summarized twenty years of her career and chart topping songs incorporating the sounds of other artists.  She shared the stage with Destiny’s Child, Solange, and her husband, Jay-Z.  Even though the show was not completely about the BeyHive, you still walk away knowing that it is all about Bey!

If you’re a woman that loves music, beauty, culture, and the overall advancement of women, then you need to watch Beyonce’s Coachella 2018 performance.  You will never be prouder of the fact that a wife, mother of three, and winner of many awards showed up and showed out at the festival.  It wasn’t just a win for her; it was a win for all women.  Her performance belied the greatness that we all have within us.  Nevertheless, she continues to prove that one woman can be fierce and unapologetically great and create her own rules. There is no reason to be sorry for that…..

Top Five Ways to Spring Clean Your Makeup Bag

medium_2246602555

It is officially Spring and what better way to start it off than with Spring cleaning.  Since this blog is about makeup, we are going to focus on spring cleaning our makeup bags.  Each year we purchase and accumulate all kinds of products that we have great intentions on using, but somehow never do for whatever reason.  Most of these products come with expiration dates.  Today, we are going to focus on the products that you need to get rid of that are probably well beyond the expiration.  Here’s my top ten list of items that you need to get rid of if it’s just taking up space in your makeup bag.

  1. Mascara- I don’t care how expensive it is. Mascara comes with an expiration date.  If you have had it longer than three months, then it’s time to get rid of it.  If not, mascara is one of those products that can carry lot of bacteria.  If you don’t want to risk getting some type of eye infection, I encourage you to get rid of that old mascara. It’s just collecting dust…and more bacteria.
  2. Foundation-Foundation gets old and watery.  It’s just ineffective if you allow it to get that way.  Who wants to put on extra streaky foundation that’s watered down? I promise you the outcome won’t be your desired look so just throw it away and start over.
  3. Liquid concealer- Liquid concealer is foundation on a smaller scale.  Therefore, the same rules as #2 applies.  Just get rid of it.
  4. Liquid Eyeliner -Anything that is liquid has the ability to become ineffective after about 4-5 months, especially if you’re not using it.  Rule of thumb-if it’s watery, then it’s probably of no use.
  5. Eye Lash Glue- Bonding glue is the worse because after a nonuse it become porous and the adhesive is not going to stick.  Therefore, you should throw away your lash glue after 6 months.  I’ve tested this practice, as well, and it’s definitely no good after 5-6 months.

I hope this helps.  Spring is the perfect time to start fresh with your beauty products and what better way to do so than by getting rid of the things you don’t need.

What I look forward to in 2017

on-the-beach-1387746-1279x852

Last year I had so much for which to be thankful.  Looking back, I can’t help but think about all the highs and lows.  The first part of the year is always the most exciting for me.  That is the time in which I start to put my plans in motion.  I use previous years to build upon for the next.

Last year, I took some time off to get myself together.  I went on a few trips to reflect on my life and try to prioritize my business. The time away helped me to come up with some pretty good ideas for the future.  Oftentimes, it’s  in those still moments that you have your greatest moments of clarity.  I have learned that it is critical to my growth and elevation.

As this month comes to an end, I am excited to share what I have to look forward to in 2017.  I have planned my entire year and it is going to be an exciting one.  For the next twelve months, I hope to engage my readers more by allowing you to get more involved with my posts.  I have a few giveaways that involve products for men and women in the Spring.  I will be connecting with more entrepreneurs for my first Pop Up Shop in April.  I’m excited about the photo shoot for Ponch Cosmetics’ Spring lipstick line.  Finally, I plan to end the year by giving back with my event that I haven’t planned in two years! I hope that it will be the highlight of this year.

Stay tuned to find out what all I have in store.  I hope to make 2017 as stimulating for my readers as well as for me.  Last year was great, but 2017 will be my best year ever! If not, it won’t be due to lack of effort on my part.  What do you look forward to in 2017?

Why Every Woman Should Be Wearing Red This Month

IMG_0100

February isn’t just the month for lovers.  It’s also the month for “red”.  Red has so many different meanings.  It’s such a strong color.  It has the power to make you react.  It’s the color that ignites passion.  Red is associated with emotion and power.  That’s why it’s the perfect color to symbolize  and express love.  When you wear red, it arouses the same emotions from the opposite sex, which is why every woman should be wearing red this month.

Studies have shown that women who wear red can easily get a man’s attention.  It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a red dress, a red hat, or red lips.  Red can get the attention of a man.  Therefore, single women looking to attract the opposite sex should be wearing red.  I mean lots of it! This doesn’t just apply to women who are single. Women who are attached should try my theory on their significant others, also.  Put some red on and see don’t you grab your man’s attention faster.

This month, I have a challenge for you ladies.  Wear red as much as you can. Wear red clothes or red lips.  Make sure to help make this “red” month.  Even though Valentine’s day will soon be approaching, you should be preparing for this special day by wearing the heck out of red.  Not just because you’re trying to get someone’s attention, but because red is stimulating and exciting. Ladies, put that red hot chilly pepper dress on and let’s all woman wear red.  Tell me what type of reaction you receive.

Bright Lights, Big City

For the past five days I have been trying to navigate my way through The Big Apple. I learned a few things while I was traveling: boy, is it big! There is absolutely nothing small about it, but land mass.  The beauty of this wonderful adventure has been the fact that I have been able to learn so much about myself in the process. Growing up in a small town, all you know is what you hear about New Yorkers. Supposedly, New Yorkers are mean, rude, and unfriendly. As a result of those rumors and assumptions, it makes you enter the city with a little trepidation.  Then you’re told to watch out for crazy people on the subway and that’s frightening, as well. I’m proud to say that my experience with New York was one of much appreciation and adoration. I can say that because I traveled around Manhattan, Brooklyn, and The Bronx by myself.

I learned that I’m sure there are those who are rude and unsavory, but for the most part people are kind. It’s hard to say that they are considerate because everyone is in a hurry trying to get to their next destination or hustle, but not as rude as most would think.

As I rode the subway throughout the city and met countless New Yorkers, I was amazed at the allure of New York City. People move to New York for three things: money, fashion, or success. For those who are hungry and ambitious, it doesn’t seem so unimaginable. Everybody in the city is on their grind. Everybody I saw moving made me believe in the possibility of wealth and success, if that’s what you’re chasing. Staring at the Empire State Building reminded me to believe anything is possible.

Friday I had my first real experience with greatness and all the grandeur of the city. I met some amazing people that were doing amazing things in their fields. These same people were working with me, talking with me and encouraging me with possibilities of the future. For the first time in my life, I looked beyond my small town roots and knew that success and greatness were mine for the taking. Success to me was beginning to look as big as The Big Apple.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that The Big Apple is more than just bright lights in a big city full of rude people. Those lights inspire people like me. They are the guide that lights the way when you think you’re lost. Those lights gave me the extra push to keep going and believing in the magic of thinking big as the Empire State Building.
