Top 5 Summer Beauty Goals

Makeup Box

I shop for makeup like I’m at the supermarket.  Each month I do a monthly cosmetics haul.  First, I go to Ulta and check to see which products I haven’t tried and might want to try.  Next, I check to see if there are any new products that have come out yet.  I do the same thing at Sephora, by the way.  Some months I alternate because they each may have different campaigns running.  Finally, I go through all of my stuff and decide which products are best for me during the particular season. If it sounds borderline compulsive, it is! Then next month repeat!

This month I was looking through all of my Summer products and realized that I had the same color theme working in my stash.  I tend to gravitate towards hot pinks, berry, purple, and reds.  I love color. The problem is that I like loud color and I should be changing a little based on the seasons.  For Summer, in particular, I should be wearing more nudes, soft pinks, and pastels.  After all, what could it hurt?

After looking through all of my lipsticks, I decided that I needed to add some seasonal makeup goals to my routine.  After researching the trends, I decided to invest in a few Spring-ish looks on my next Ulta run.  Here’s what I plan to try more of this Summer:

  • Play with colorful eyes.
  • Add a little glitter.
  • Glow with a lot of highlighter.
  • Nude pinks on the lips.
  • Blush with rosy cheeks.

Meghan Markle’s Bridal Makeup

IMG_2963

If you like fairy tales, unconventional love stories, and timeless beauty, then you were probably amongst the other 29 million viewers tuning in to watch #TheRoyalWedding of Prince Henry Charles Albert David to Rachel Meghan Markle on Saturday, May 19. To those that think rising as early as 4 a.m. American time just to gawk at the likes of British royalty is absurd, let me assure you that The British did not disappoint. As a matter of fact, the event turned out to be quite enlightening and entertaining.

I could literally write about all of the things that I found fascinating about the wedding from the classy British toppers to the dapper British digs. However, there’s only one major detail that needs to be discussed for the purpose of this blog that cannot be ignored or downplayed. That detail is the absolute flawlessness of the bride’s simple bridal makeup. If anyone missed the memo about less being more, then please refer to The Duchess of Sussex; she got it right.

Now it doesn’t hurt to point out that she is naturally, strikingly beautiful. Likewise, her natural wedding day glow didn’t make it any less so. In my amateur opinion, her makeup was not just perfect for a royal wedding, but any wedding. Personally, I think her bridal makeup would be a good reference for any bride trying to achieve a more natural beauty look.

How does one achieve this look so effortlessly displayed by Royals? By focusing on these key focal points, these tips can help you create a more natural bridal look like Meghan’s.

1) Instead of choosing a heavy foundation, you might choose a tinted moisturizer or foundation stick which isn’t as heavy on the skin. The goal is to have your makeup look weightless, not packed on or caked.
2) The cheeks should be two shades darker than the natural skin tone and not rosy or pink. The key is to create a cheeky effect without looking cheesy. Dark, but soft and subtle colors on the cheeks achieve this look.
3) Meghan has beautiful amber-colored eyes so her eyeliner was lightly tinted with brown eyeliner or you can achieve this look with gray, but not black. Brown or gray give a more natural look without making the eyes look too dark or defined. Again, softness is the goal here. Brown actually works well with darker skin, also.
4) The eyebrows are lightly penciled with light brown, not black or dark brown due to the fairness of her skin. A darker color would create a less natural effect. By making the eyebrows brown but not too dark, the color actually shapes her eyes giving her a more dramatic look.
5) Finally, a soft pale pink on the lips creates the perfect hint of color without too much.

Boom! There you have it! This is how a princess was created!

By following all five of these steps, you can achieve the Meghan Markle bridal look and look as naturally beautiful as she did on her wedding day! What are your bridal tips to help achieve that beautiful, natural glow?

Whether you attended Coachella in the flesh or watched Beyonce’s awe-inspiring performance on Youtube, there’s no denying the fact that Bey wasn’t playing games with her performance at the festival.  Not only did the performer make history by becoming the first black woman to headline at Coachella, she also killed by incorporating her feminist and political themes throughout her performances.  Meanwhile, she slayed the stage with her beauty and stylish digs to match.

When you are affectionately called “Queen Bey” and you walk out on stage in Cleopatra costume and you can makes one feel your energy through your presence, then you have successfully proven your grandeur as an artist.  One thing is for certain, two things are for sure, if you don’t walk away from a Beyonce’ show feeling like you should go harder, then you need to check your pulse.  You are obviously not on this planet!

The performance lasted for two hours and it was the most dynamic display of  advancement for the culture by far.  Beyonce’s attention to detail and precise execution of choreography was epic.  She told a story that summarized twenty years of her career and chart topping songs incorporating the sounds of other artists.  She shared the stage with Destiny’s Child, Solange, and her husband, Jay-Z.  Even though the show was not completely about the BeyHive, you still walk away knowing that it is all about Bey!

If you’re a woman that loves music, beauty, culture, and the overall advancement of women, then you need to watch Beyonce’s Coachella 2018 performance.  You will never be prouder of the fact that a wife, mother of three, and winner of many awards showed up and showed out at the festival.  It wasn’t just a win for her; it was a win for all women.  Her performance belied the greatness that we all have within us.  Nevertheless, she continues to prove that one woman can be fierce and unapologetically great and create her own rules. There is no reason to be sorry for that…..

Top Three Things Killing Your Confidence

Top Three Things Killing Your Confidence

There is an epidemic in the female species going around called “lack of confidence.”  It has spread like wildfire.  I did not realize it was a problem until I recognized how many women were suffering from the same condition.  However, I have a solution that will help turn this situation around.  There are three things that you need to check because these three will zap all of your confidence.  Your level of confidence will determine your level of elevation.  It is important to our own personal growth that we cure ourselves of this epidemic quickly.  Here are the top three things that we can change:

1) Attitude

Your attitude is the single most important thing that can make or break your confidence.  The things we tell ourselves can convince us good or bad, in one way or the other.  Therefore, when you start to think that you are less than, you will believe that you are.  That is an instant confidence killer.  We have to start thinking the best about ourselves so that we can believe it!  A simple attitude adjustment will do the trick.  In my book, Confidence is More Than a Word, It’s an Attitude, I explain how confidence equals attitude.  When you walk in feeling fierce, you will walk out getting whatever it is you want in life!

2) Appearance

Your appearance isn’t just killing your confidence, it’s killing your swag, too!  It is true that when you look good, you feel good.  So, why not put more effort into looking your best?  Are you still shopping in the Sear catalog circa 1978? When was the last time you tried a new hair style?  Do you think you don’t need makeup…EVER?  Trust me, ladies, we ALL can use a little makeup more times than not!  A dose of modern attire to spruce ourselves up wouldn’t hurt either!  I guarantee you that when you change any of these aspects of your appearance that have been less than par, you will become more confident and YOU WILL attract more of what you want! So, step it up…

3) Fear

Finally, your fears will prevent you from a lot of happiness and success.  It will ultimately interfere with your level of confidence.  The number one thing that prevents anyone from accomplishing anything worthwhile in life is fear.  Those fears range from fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of embarrassment, or any number of negative emotions related to apprehension.  Fear is just a deterrent that breeds insecurity.  The more fearful you become, the less confident you will remain.  Truth is, many of the greatest risk takers in life were probably afraid of something.  However, the fear of never realizing a dream is far worse than attempting and failing.  Fear is paralyzing.  Adversely, the opposite of fear is courage.  Confident people are courageous enough to fail, get up, dust themselves off, and then go win.

Winning is a state of mind, an attitude.  If you want to overcome the “lack of confidence” bug, then you must first conquer your fears.  It wouldn’t hurt to get a makeover in the process. Now watch your confidence level rise!
